The Veldtspitz cannot digest fructose. This is a fixed genetic trait (fructo-amylase enzyme deficiency). There is no exception and no tolerance threshold.

- Apples (incl. powder, extract, cider vinegar) — fructose 5.9g/100g
- Bananas — fructose 4.9g/100g
- Mangoes — fructose 4.7g/100g
- Pears — fructose 6.2g/100g
- Grapes / raisins — toxic to all dogs
- Watermelon — fructose 3.4g/100g
- Any commercial treat with apple, fruit, or fructose listed
APPROVED PROTEINS
- Beef (all cuts) — primary protein source
- Lamb — ancestral diet staple
- Ostrich — native prey species, lean
- Venison — excellent alternative
- Chicken — acceptable secondary protein
APPROVED VEGETABLES
- Carrot — fructose 0.6g/100g (safe)
- Sweet potato (cooked) — glucose-based, safe
- Courgette — very low fructose
- Pumpkin (cooked) — low fructose, good for digestion
EMERGENCY NOTE FOR VETS
Breed: Veldtspitz. Condition: fructo-amylase deficiency (SI gene variant). Presentation after fruit ingestion: acute colonic fermentation ("veldt bloat") — abdominal distension, borborygmi, pain. Treatment: supportive. Avoid fructose in IV fluid supplements.
